Tire Sizing Codes Are Easier to Read Than It May Seem

Reading the sizing code on your tire sidewalls can seem a bit tricky if you have never had the code broken down for you before. But once you know how to read it, you will find that it really isn't all that complicated. For example, if a tire has a sizing code on it that reads P205/55R16, then that breaks down as:

  • P - Passenger vehicle type tire.
  • 205 - Tire width. This tire is 205 millimeters wide.
  • 55 - Aspect ratio. This tire's height would be 55% of its width.
  • R - Radial construction.
  • 16 - Wheel diameter. This particular tire would fit on a 16" wheel.

As you can see, there really isn't all that much to it once you get the code broken down. If you have any more tire sizing questions then call or visit our service department here at Audi Bellingham in Bellingham, WA.
